Carter Brothers barbecue isn't the worst I've ever had and it's definitely not the best. Carter Brothers BarBQ And Ribs Sign In the several times I've eaten there it's been consistently very average which is why I'm giving it an average rating of two pigs on Kent's one to four pig scale.

I've done business with a couple of clients in nearby Jamesville NC over the years which is how I found out about Carter Brothers. Carte rBrothers BarBQ And Ribs Exterior Their actual restaurant facility is one of the nicest ones I've ever been in, spacious and airy and with enough room so you don't feel crowded. Their restrooms are also among the cleanest I've ever been in, too.

But their staff is consistently indifferent and slow. They're not outright rude, but every time I've gone there they just give off a vibe that they just don't care. Their actual service is usually very slow, even when the restaurant's close to being empty.

And you go to a barbecue joint for the barbecue, not for the service or the atmosphere. In that regard they're worth bothering to go to only if you're pressed for time and don't have the time to drive further into town to go to Country Barbecue further up on Wendover Avenue or a little further to Stamey's.

The barbecue itself is close to tasteless. Not bad or good, just very plain. Carter Brothers BarBQ And Ribs Barbecue Tray They claim to cook with live hardwood coals (or is it charcoal coals?) but if they do, I can't taste it. It tastes like it was cooked with gas. Their "dip" (barbecue sauce) is also very plain, no distinct taste to it at all, like it came out of a bottle. Their coleslaw and potato salad are both also very average, but their hushpuppies are pretty good. The two things on their menu which should surprise you on how good they are, are their garden salad and banana pudding, both of which are the better part of the meal for me.

If you're in that part of town and want barbecue for lunch or dinner, Carter Brothers is an okay place to go to and take business clients or family. I just wouldn't drive a long way specifically to go there.
